Where Does Love Go When It Goes Away?

Love is perhaps the most familiar human language and experience, yet very few of us are ever taught how it actually works. We fall in love, drift apart, long to be understood, carry disappointments, repeat old patterns and quietly wonder why relationships can feel so beautiful one moment and so difficult the next. This evening is an invitation to slow down and look beneath those experiences with curiosity rather than judgement.

Drawing from psychotherapy, Mahayana Buddhism, biology and contemplative practice, we will explore the invisible emotional structures that shape intimacy. Together we will ask what love really is, why some people struggle to receive it even when it is present, where love seems to go when it goes away, and why loneliness can ache so deeply. Along the way we will gently uncover how our earliest relationships continue to live inside our adult ones, how the body remembers what the mind has forgotten, and how compassion begins to change the way we meet ourselves and one another.

You do not need a background in psychology or meditation to join us. Only a willingness to be curious. My hope is that you leave with something more valuable than answers. A language for experiences you may have carried for years, and perhaps a little more tenderness for your own story and for the people whose lives have become intertwined with yours.

What we will explore together

We will spend the evening wondering about love, loneliness and the ways our relationships shape us. We'll look at what stays with us from childhood, why certain patterns keep finding us, how our bodies remember what our minds often cannot, and what psychotherapy and Mahayana Buddhism have to say about intimacy, compassion and being human. There will be stories, questions, conversation and moments to simply sit with what arises.
